Running behind

Well, I'm behind in everything else, might as well be behind on Createslate. Still, here's my report card, tardy as it may be.

Writing: Blogging and outlining. Working on the monthly family newsletter. Attempting to repair Murder by the Mile. Keep having these fantasies where I meet my characters in a dark alley and I'm holding a machine gun. It doesn't go well for them.

Diet: Holding to the low carb. It's quite hard. I miss bread like the way I figure addicts must miss meth. Still, it's doable, and I'm doing it. I have a Atkins recipe book on order. Hoping it will help me increase the variety of my meals. I'm getting tired of eggs and Eggbeaters.

Clutter: Continuing to add things to the yard sale materials. Hope to have another sale next month and unload more of these things. Want the space. Sometimes it feels like all this stuff is smothering me.

Social: Attempting to get out of the house more. I've been a hermit other than the necessary trips. Not good for me. There's a whole world out there. I need to be out in it.

Job search: Continues. Got a couple of leads this week that might pan out. Hope so.

Publishing: Sometime soon Floozy and Other Stories should be on Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble.com. And my first two mysteries, Murder by Dewey Decimal and Murder by the Acre, will be out as ebooks at the iTunes store in a couple of months. Don't know what sales will be like, of course, but this should be interesting to watch.

And that's my late report. Hope life is treating you well. If not, grab it by the throat and give it a good shake!

You're doing so well in all areas. Praying something positive comes through on the job front, and you'd be running on all cylinders.

I've found some good recipes at Allrecipes.com. Click on the view recipes page, though, and I think you'll find some things you might like.

Oh, yeah, I can totally relate to getting sick of eggs and Egg Beaters. Mornings are my hard part. I need a fair amount of protein. I've been waking up hungry, but I don't want to cook straight out of bed, and all my quick and easy favorites are high carb. I try to keep yogurt on hand but after a week or so, I'm sick of eggs, Egg Beaters, and fruit and yogurt! Why does morning protein need to be so hard?

One book I've read has recommended a European breakfast. I remembered to my TDY's to Germany and the breakfast buffet at the local gasthaus we were staying at. There is, of course, fruit and scrambled eggs, but there are also meat and cheese trays and hard rolls. If you eliminate the hard rolls and focus on the meat and cheese, that can be ok. For Wendy and me, that may rack up too many points, but for low carb, there might be something you can use there to balance the eggs, EggBeaters, and fruit -- or at least complement them.

I have found cereal and milk is not particularly satisfying. It's so-so if I have some fruit to put on top, but I prefer the egg loaded with chopped veggies.

I have a cereal for diabetics that I eat when I don't want to cook me some eggs and bacon ... sigh. It's a very healthy cereal, full of fiber and vitamins. Tastes like it, too. But it does keep my blood sugar down, and that's the goal.

I rarely do cereal and milk anymore because it doesn't stick long enough for the points it costs. However, Morning Star does veggie breakfast sausage that tastes like real sausage (the texture isn't quite the same) and is low points. I've been doing that and toast, and it's been working. Good thought on the European breakfast, Jean. Of course, in Italy, breakfast was brioche and cappuccino so that's not going to work right now, but the concept fits.
