Wendy's Week

Eric is wrapping up a week and a half of vacation this weekend. He's looking forward to going to work Monday. He says it's because the new job will offer new challenges and is more in line with what he wants to do. I'm pretty sure it's also because he can get away from my never-ending honey do list. ;-)

Good Stuff:
- We did not one but three trips to Good Will. Granted, we didn't have full loads, but we got rid of a lot of flotsam. I think we gave them 3 computers and 2 extra monitors, plus some clothes, books, record albums (yes, old vinyl records) and other detritus.
- Donated our old coffee and the '80's era stereo my mom gave us a few years ago that we've never gotten speakers for to a new thrift shop downtown. She specializes in "old" stuff and likes to refinish furniture.
- Got the dining room and loft decluttered.
- Finally painted the master bath. It only took 7 years to get around to it. If we weren't having a walk-in shower put in sometime soon, it might still not have gotten done. I still have some putting together to do in there, but that should be finished today.
- Cleared off the tops of our dressers. It doesn't sound as important as it was!
- Started weeding raised beds. They're terrible after the mild winter we had. We decided to keep the raised bed we were going to take out, and I'm expanding the garden with the pots we bought. I'm going to try growing brussels sprouts and dried beans, and I'm trying a new method for potatoes.
- Swam 4 times!
- Mom and Aunt Shirley will be here Thursday, and we're dragging them to St. Charles for Tartan Days! I love going to St. Charles, festival or no. We'd move there if MO didn't tax military retirement.

Not So Good Stuff:
- We got a lot done, but there's still a lot left to do, and I'm on my own again.
- I need to come up with new ways to keep track of what day it is. My last day of work is next Friday.
- Bought new black out curtains for the bedroom. The old, homemade, cobbled together ones work better. The new ones look prettier, but they're going back to the store. I might try them in a darker color and see if that works better. It's important because we need to be able to get the room cave dark for Eric's migraines, but we also have a street light that shines in one window, and I need it dark to sleep. The bulb in the light was out for a few months a couple years after we moved in, and I was so bummed when they fixed it!
- Because of the never ending honey do list, I didn't get nearly as much writing in as I would have liked. That's not the way to write 3 books in a year. I do have my alternate writing month in May, and NaNo in November. I'll see how things go, but I may add another alternate writing month in August.

So that's about it here. How's it going where you are?

Woohoo on the trips to Good Will. You're making progress. Wish I had known you had records to get rid of. You might have had something I wanted. Yes, I still have a turntable. Old tech is often good tech.

Have you thought of the "pellet gun" solution for that light? :)

Could you hang another curtain behind the first one? Or a shade? I have both curtains and shades up in my house.

Yay for the tops of dressers your can see. I have the dark red black out curtains from WalMart in the bedrooms, and they work very well. I second the suggestion of a shade or mini-blind behind them. I have the tan ones in the Blue room, and they don't block out as completely as the darker colors.

What a productive week. I'm sure Eric is just excited at the new job opportunities. I can't imagine him being tired of your Honey Do list (Cough. Cough.).

I have shades in all the windows of the house except the two south windows. The curtains let too much light in even with the shades closed. I took them back this evening and got some darker ones. Hopefully they'll work.

Yes, I have considered the pellet gun solution, but sooner or later the Homeowners will figure out who is behind it and I'll be busted. Don't think it doesn't cross my mind on a regular basis!
