Contemplation

Someone I know via Forward Motion, so you may know her too, participated in a program last year called the Master Key Mastermind Alliance. She blogged about it periodically, and I casually followed along. The new class is opening soon for 2015, and she's posting about it. If you want to find out more, check out her page here. It's launching in the typical three video format, and I can see a lot of the home based business influence, but the gist of the program is, you can't do many of the things you want to do in life until you get your head right.

The talk of living the dream and trips and money and all that doesn't do a thing for me. Frankly, I have all that. I'm not unhappy about it, but I'm not going to invest my time and effort into trying to get that when I have it. Other people? I totally get that they don't have it, and that's part of their dream -- and it's a good dream. But me? I'm still not right in the head. You can laugh about that. I'm not terribly wrong in the head, but I have things I want to do better in my life, and I realize my subconscious is sabotaging me achieving those goals. The opportunity to figure that out motivates me to look further into this program. I still have reservations, but I'm evaluating it. One intriguing aspect is the up front cost is $1. Everyone invited into the program receives a "pay-it-forward" scholarship from (I guess) someone who has been through the program before.

It seems to be based upon Napolean Hill's Think and Grow Rich and Charles Hannel's The Master Key System. Are either of you familiar with this? Do you find it remotely intriguing? Not just for the reasons I find it intriguing but as a way to help achieve the dreams you have?

On to the other stuff for the week. Sapphire is a healthy and happy kitten. She's out more. She's playing well. She is meeting and greeting the other cats. She's not scared of Lady or Daphne, but she's not stupidly allowing herself to be beat up by them either. Daphne seems as if she may be afraid of Sapphire, which it amusing, because Daphne has never been afraid of anything before now. Best of all, Rossie is playing with Sapphire, and that's encouraging to see.

Thanks for your brainstorming ideas the other night. I'm going to spend a few days this week looking for ways to incorporate them into Granite Hill stories.

The Week Ahead:
  • Take Mr. L to SA and back
  • Head to Dallas for the weekend
  • Take a friend to dinner Thursday night
  • Spend some time with the kids (hopefully younger daughter will come up from Austin on Saturday)
  • Swap meet on Friday and maybe Saturday
  • Cats will spend a lot of time on towers this week.
  • Rossie and Sapphire come to SA with us, then spend the weekend at the resort.
It's unlikely to be a productive week writing-wise, but family-wise, I hope it's good.

Family and friends are a good way to spend a week!

No sure about the course. I will watch the first video -- if it lets me without signing up -- and see what I think. Are you thinking about taking the course?

You have to give them an email address (preferably valid). I used my BS email address, and the only email I've received was the email for the second video. I signed up to get on Patty's list, and she has sent other emails -- none are annoying.

I'm considering applying for the course, but remain undecided.

I think the second video was better, but I guess they're designed to be cumulative.

I dunno. It's a 37 minute video about a 26 week program, and they've started with testimonials. I'll give them 10 minutes to tell me what it's about and I'm out. I guess I'm one of those people who wants to cut to the chase.

I'm not fond of testimonials. I don't care about Hawaii (but fully support that the guy is living his dream). Apparently, you use the principles to achieve what you want, and apparently a lot of people think they want money and time and travel. That part is not for me, but I get that it's a huge part of what most people want.

For a more realistic testimonial, you need to read Patty's blog from the beginning. That's useful for me. People on video saying, "This is so great." or "I just get all teared up about this." is useless.

I'm all for money and travel. I would love more, but at this point am content with what I have. What I don't want to do is sit for half an hour while some guy takes the long way of telling me when his program is better than any other self-help guru I've shelled out money for along the way, and why his way will work when the others haven't. I'd rather have a one-sheet with bullet points than 90 minutes of videos and a 26 week commitment.

I guess it depends on what you get out of it. Do the principles shown help me to write more? Cause writing seems to be the way I can make more money and writing more does make me happier. Like you, Jean, I wonder why I'm sabotaging myself. Yeah, I've had a lot -- A LOT -- of health problems lately, but still, there have been people with terribly serious illnesses and financial problems who have written a lot. Curious question that: Why are we not writing? Why aren't we producing Blackbirds three or four times a year? The writers group I'm in on Facebook (didn't want to say their name) have several people who produce anthologies every two months. Why am I not doing that? Why aren't we?

I can't speak for everyone, Stephen, but for me, life keeps getting in the way. Children, unexpected medical issues, general life chaos... and depression.

Some people really work this writing thing, some don't. I like to think we're putting out quality over quantity.

I hear you, Wendy. The videos have about three minutes of content each, and the rest, quite frankly, strikes me as a waste of time, but I have the same questions Stephen has. What is holding me back? I know it's my subconscious mind slowing me down and sabotaging many of my efforts.

Can I achieve it by studying the two books I mentioned above and any other things referenced in them? I have a paperback of Think and Grow Rich around here, but I confess I haven't read it. I bought both on Kindle format for 99 cents each. Can I self-direct enough to achieve positive benefits? Or would I benefit more from a trained guide to help me chart my path?

What's woefully unclear from the two videos I've seen so far but fairly clear from Patty's blog is the program is what you make of it. Patty has made some significant strides in achieving things she set out to do in the program, and she's been trained as a guide for this year's class.

I echo your questions, Stephen. I know what I want to do -- need to do in some cases, yet I fail to do so. I want to deal with the head case issues I have and move forward.

I have to ask myself: how much do I really want it?
